Some of our customers come to us with punctured run flat tyres and ask us to repair them. These tyres really do live up to their name “run flat tyres” but in the course of doing so usually end up beyond repair! Often the cost of a replacement run flat tyre is $450 to $850 each! and our customers often are not happy to hear this. It is even worse when a full set of new tyres is required! Opting to use conventional tyres instead is not so simple as the two types of tyres can not be mixed on the same axle and also a lot of the vehicles running run flats do not have spare tyres or even room for one.
Faced with close to a $4000 bill for a full set of tyres, some customers have told us to fit conventional Hankook tyres with the customer saying they would put a tyre pando in the boot and if necessary, they would run the tyres flat!
It is essential that you advise your car insurance company if you are considering changing from runflat tyres to standard passenger car radials. Do not run the risk of having a claim rejected.
