A customer came to Megatyre towbars North Shore Auckland on saturday afternoon with his current vehicle which has been written off following a recent accident. The vehicle had taken quite a severe smack at the rear with the towbar being at the centre of the damage; the towbar SEEMED to have survived the accident in quite good condition. The problem here is that while the towbar may seem to be in perfect condition, the impact of the accident may have weakened the towbars structure and caused hairline cracks in welds etc.
Our customer said he was buying an identical vehicle and requested we remove the towbar from the written off vehicle and fit it to the new one. Of course we declined to do this and told him that towbars involved in accidents should always be destroyed and replaced. I also explained that insurance companies always replace towbars that have been involved in an accident.
We never fit or repair accident damaged towbars but always remove them free of charge when a new towbar is being purchased.
