For many folks, these are hard times and many of us are focused on saving money and keeping costs down. But sometimes it is a good idea to pay a bit more to get a lot more. This is especially true when buying tyres and an email received from a regular customer yesterday is a practical reminder of this:
“Hi Brian, just to let you know the rather staggering fact that the 2 Hankook RA08 tyres off my Granvia that you changed yesterday have covered 100,000km!
Derek”
Derek is a commercial passenger vehicle operator and drives a Toyota Granvia mini bus which does huge mileages. Most Granvia’s and Regius vans operate on 4 ply passenger radial car tyres (pcrs) and a look at the placard inside the door well confirms this specification is approved by Toyota. The problem is that regardless of brand, quality or price, 4 ply passenger tyres really are not up to the needs of a heavy Granvia van; even less so when it is full of people and luggage. Especially, passenger car radials lack the sidewall strength needed to handle the loads and stresses of heavy commercial vehicles and do not survive to high kilometres.
Our customer fitted our commercial grade Hankook 8 ply RA08 tyres to his vehicle and has been delighted with both their ability to handle his heavy loads and also the great 100,000 plus kms he is getting. These Hankook RA08 tyres were still road legal when he changed them!
The team at Megatyre, Browns Bay, North Shore, Auckland are always happy to advise you on your tyre needs, just phone or email us, or better still drop into Megatyre sometime you are down in Browns Bay.
