A really worthwhile benefit of these protectors is that the design of their steel centre permits bike racks to be safely locked in place on the towbar. Some other brands of shin protector have a slightly raised surface on the top of the tongue which prevents bike racks from being safely secured on the towball; the bike rack will nearly always work loose with potentially dire consequences.
