Many modern vehicles have Parking and Reversing Sensors and obviously they help save a lot of paint and panel damage. Usually their fitment does not cause any issues but sometimes the towball on some towbars will activate the sensors and cause the motorist considerable irritation.
At Megatyre we know which vehicles sensors are towball sensitive and can recommend a removable tongue tow bar so the sensors are not activated when the tongue is removed. Obviously the sensors will still be activated when the vehicle is being reversed with the tongue fitted and the towball or towed item are detected. Vehicle specific trailer wiring interfaces on some prestige vehicles overcome this problem by deactivating the sensors when a trailer is attached. On some exclusive vehicles the computer will deactivate the vehicle sensors and activate sensors at the rear of the trailer; electronic interface wiring installations of this complexity tend to be very expensive.
The location of aftermarket parking sensors in the rear bumper can vary, generally they are not a problem but there are occasions where the installer has located them higher or lower than usual or placed one exactly in front of where the towball is going to be located. In these rare instances we can overcome the problem by fitting a removable tongue towbar (when available) or fitting a convertaball.
Megatyre supplies and fits a wide range or towbars for cars, utes vans, suv’s and 4wds Mondays through Saturdays. We also stock a wide range of towbar accessories.
